Whoa! UFC 141 Lesnar vs. Overeem – Results+

Wow, I’m not sure why Brock didn’t try harder for the takedowns. I’m obviously in no place to coach, but I saw him trying to trade strikes with Overeem way more than I would’ve thought. In fact, I think it was Brock Lesnar who threw the first kick of the fight. I figured on Lesnar charging like a bull at Overeem and driving him to the ground. Regardless, it didn’t work out well for Brock. Overeem hurt him several times with knees to the body, and ended it with a good shin to the liver which crumbled Lesnar to the ground, where Alistair Overeem TKO’d him. Overeem will now face Junior Dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Brock Lesnar announced his retirement from MMA in the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

In the co-main event, Nate Diaz pretty much dominated Donald Cerrone with his boxing. Diaz won via unanimous decision after three rounds.

The rest of the night went like this:

Johny Hendricks def. Jon Fitch via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 0:12
Alexander Gustafsson def. Vladimir Matyushenko via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 2:13
Jim Hettes def. Nam Phan via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-26)
Ross Pearson def. Junior Assuncao via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
Danny Castillo def. Anthony Njokuani via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Dong Hyun Kim def. Sean Pierson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Jacob Volkmann def. Efrain Escudero via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Diego Nunes def. Manny Gamburyan via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Mauricio Shogun Rua New UFC Light Heavyweight Champion

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua defeated Lyoto Machida by KO in round 1, ending the controversy surrounding their first matchup, in which Lyoto Machida was awarded a decision victory, despite many people who thought Shogun should’ve been the winner. This was Machida’s first loss.

Josh Koscheck TOTALLY dominated the trash-talking Paul Daley, and won an easy decision victory. I don’t think Paul Daley really showed any offense at all, until after the fight was over, when he snuck up behind Josh Koscheck and sucker-punched him with a left hook to the face. Unbelievable. There really isn’t any excuse Daley can give for his actions. I’m sure he’ll try to say he was full of adrenaline, or maybe even make up a lie about Koscheck saying something rude to him during the fight… but who cares. Daley seems like scum.

In other results from UFC 113:

  1. John Salter defeats Jason McDonald after McDonald suffers a broken ankle in round one.
  2. Mike “Joker” Guymon defeats Yoshiyuki Yoshida by decision
  3. Joey Beltran defeats Tim Hague by decision
  4. Johny Hendricks defeats TJ Grant by decision
  5. Marcus Davis defeats Jonathan Goulet by TKO
  6. Joe Doerkson defeats Tom Lawlor by submission (rear naked choke)
  7. Alan Belcher defeats Patrick Cote by rear naked choke, after a gnarly almost-piledriver.
  8. Matt Mitrione defeats Kimbo Slice by TKO in round 2.
  9. Jeremy Stephens defeats Sam Stout by decision.

UFC 107: My Picks To Win

Yeah, I know my picks don’t matter, but still…

Kevin Burns over TJ Grant
Demarques Johnson over Edgar Garcia
Rousimar Palhares over Lucio Linhares
Johnny Hendricks by something brutal over Ricardo “Golden Boy” Funch
Matt Wiman over Shane Nelson
Alan Belcher over Wilson Gouveia
Paul Buentello by KO over Stefan Struve
Kenny Florian by submission over Clay Guida
Jon Fitch by decision over Mike Pierce
Frank Mir by submission over Cheick Kongo
…and the main event is a tough one for me, I hate to see either guy lose, but I think I’m gonna have to pick BJ Penn on this one, although Diego is an animal and always comes to fight.
