Damn. I am very disappointed that the GSP vs. Nick Diaz fight won’t be happening soon. St. Pierre blew out his ACL and will be out of competition for 10 months according to everything I’ve heard. I was really looking forward to seeing him fight Nick Diaz. The Diaz/Condit fight should be good also, and will be for the interim UFC welterweight championship, but still nowhere near as interesting as Diaz/GSP. Maybe St. Pierre can take these 10 months and put on some weight to move up and fight Anderson Silva for the “Superfight” some people have been talking about for a couple of years now.
Cancelled…or at least postponed. Evidently GSP sprained his knee while sparring, and won’t be able to fight at UFC 137 against Carlos Condit as planned. The main event of UFC 137 will now be Nick Diaz vs. BJ Penn. I was more looking forward to the Diaz/Penn fight anyway…and originally I was more excited for a GSP/Diaz fight, but of course that didn’t happen because of Nick Diaz being a no-show at press conferences. In my opinion, that fight never should’ve been cancelled, not that it matters, GSP maybe would’ve been injured anyway.
Wow… I guess Frank Mir was so focused on Brock Lesnar that he forgot about fighting Shane Carwin? I couldn’t believe Mir was standing there looking like he wanted to slug it out with Carwin, who continues his streak of ending fights in the 1st round. He has never had a fight go longer than 1 round, and all end by KO.
The main event of the night, was totally dominated by Georges St. Pierre. Many people are saying it was a boring fight, but whatever, it was dominated from start to finish by GSP and his unstoppable takedowns. GSP apologized aferward to his fans for not finishing Dan Hardy off.
Same thing with Jon Fitch… decision, as usual. Three rounds of dominating Ben Saunders for a unanimous decision.
Other fight results were:
Matt Riddle won by DQ after winning the first two rounds, when in the 3rd round his opponent, Greg Soto kicked him with an illegal upkick while Riddle was down. The doctor stopped the fight because it appeared Riddle was not going to recover.
Jared Hamann defeated Rodney Wallace via decision
Rousimar Palhares defeated Tomasz Drwal via nasty heel hook after Drwal slipped while throwing a kick and landed on his back. Palhares immediately locked on a heel hook and didn’t let go, even when Drwal tapped, even when the ref tried to stop it, Palhares kept torquing the heel hook. Ouch. Palhares apologized afterward.
Ricardo Almeida defeated Matt Brown in Round 2 via triangle submission.
Nate Diaz looked very impressive, beating up the bigger opponent Rory Markham and scoring a TKO stoppage in round 1.
Jim Miller defeated Mark Bocek by decision
Kurt Pellegrino defeated Fabricio Camoes by rear naked choke in Round 2.
I’m thinking this is going to be a good show!
Ricardo Almeida over Matt Brown by submission
Nate Diaz over Rory Markham by sub
Jim Miller over Mark Bocek
Ben Saunders over Jon Fitch
Kurt Pellegrino over Fabricio Camoes
Frank Mir over Shane Carwin
Georges St. Pierre over Dan Hardy
I like Shane Carwin, I hope he does well…but I ultimately hope for a 3rd match between Mir/Lesnar… although Carwin/Lesnar is very interesting also!
Shane Carwin hasn’t showed up.
Dana says the winner of Mir/Carwin will fight Brock Lesnar this summer.
Lots of press kissing Dana’s ass, one begging for free tickets.
UFC considering an event in Orlando (THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN).
I think some chick just asked Frank Mir to choke her out.
Someone asked Dana about Jake Shields and Fedor Emelianko… Dana says he likes Jake and its obvious that Strikeforce is trying to get him beat by having him fight at 185lbs when he’s the 170lb champ. As for Fedor, Dana says it’s all about negotiations not working out.
Seth Petruzelli gets a shout-out from someone in the audience who asks about bringing him back to fight Kimbo. — I like this.
Lots of people asking for autographs…props to Dana White and the fighters for being patient and signing stuff.
First of all, the main event of the night for me will be Bruce Buffer doing a 360 spin as he introduces the fighters.
I’d like to see Tom Lawlor kick CB Dollaway’s ass, but I’m not really thinking it’s going to happen. I feel basically the same way about Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar…I’d like to see Frank Mir win again, but I don’t really think he’ll be able to…but how shocking would it be if he somehow KO’s Brock Lesnar and leaves him unconscious?
Jon Jones is going to destroy Jake O’Brien. Jones seemed unstoppable last time he fought.
I have Jim Miller beating Mac Danzig..
MARK COLEMAN over Stephan Bonnar…WTF? The UFC website says this fight “May not be broadcast”…my ass.. it better be broadcast.
Alan Belcher will defeat Yoshihiro Akiyama.
I seriously hope Dan Henderson KTFO of Michael Bisping.. I predict Bisping running and backing up much of the fight, refusing to exchange punches.
Jon Fitch will win his match against Paulo Thiago.. and I just noticed we have two guys named “Jon” on this fight card.
I’d love to see Georges St. Pierre get a dominant win over Thiago Alves, and set up a future bout with Anderson Silva.
As I already said, I’d enjoy seeing Frank Mir get a tapout, or an unbelievable knockout over Brock Lesnar…I just can’t see it happening again, but I seriously hope I’m wrong.
Tonights UFC is dedicated to Helio Gracie. Respect.
Clay Guida vs. Nate Diaz – I hope this is an awesome fight. I’m not picking a winner, I like both dudes. How can anyone not love Clay Guida? Rogan is talking about Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler and talks about how much Lawler has improved since that fight, so obviously we will see Robbie Lawler back in the UFC soon. Back to this fight, I give round one to Clay Guida for a good takedown, good GNP, and even a full-nelson into side mount to land elbows! Round two coming up…and it was another good round, won by Guida, in my opinion, just for controlling most of it, although Diaz had some good judo throws in the round. Round 3 was good, with Diaz getting the best of the striking early on, but then Guida again took controll and maintained it through the end of the round. Looks like it will be Guida winning a decision…and indeed it is, Clay Giuda wins a split decision.
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Karo Parisyan, bro. - Both dudes are notable judo guys, so this might be interesting…but it wasn’t. Another split decision, Karo Parisyan is the winner. I thought Dong won the first round, but rounds two and three were tough to score.
Jon Jones vs. Stephan Bonnar – WAR BONNAR! imo…but damn, Jon Jones is legit. He kicked that ass throughout round one. However, Bonnar started a comeback in round 2, and I give round 3 to Bonnar. Still, for his performance in the first round, Jon Jones gets a unanimous decision victory.
Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva – Both guys are undefeated…but not after tonight…unless there is some weird draw, which I guess is possible with Machida? However, I am pumped for this fight. Machida is such ninja. WOW, ninja he is! Machida just threw Silva down on the mat and followed up with a punch to the chin on the ground, to KTFO of Thiago Silva at the very last second of round one. Lyoto Machida wins by KTFO.
BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre – Well, basically BJ Penn got his ass kicked for 4 entire rounds, and his corner stopped the fight between the 4th and 5th rounds. I was under the impression they were going to fight to the death, but I guess not. GEORGES ST. PIERRE wins by ass kicking after 4 rounds.
Ummm….did I just hear Joe Rogan mention Fedor Emelianenko on a UFC broadcast?
Don’t miss tonights premiere episode of UFC Primetime, which basically sounds like it will be a combination of UFC All Access and HBO’s Countdown. Tonights show will focus on the upcoming fight betweent Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn, along with the training for their match at UFC 94.
MMAMania broke the news, and it’s a ridiculous decision by the UFC to cut Jon Fitch. Also, Dana White is supposedly pissed off at the entire AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) group of fighters, and won’t be doing business with them anymore. According to Kevin Iole, Dana White said he will keep AKA welterweight Mike Swick because he said Swick called him and told him he wants to keep fighting for the UFC. However, as Jon Fitch and heavyweight Christian Wellisch were cut, heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez and welterweight Josh Koscheck could be next.
Seriously, what the hell? Fitch said Wednesday that the reason he was cut was because he wouldn’t sign a lifetime contract to allow the UFC to use his name and likeness in a video game. He said he “simply didn’t understand the need to sign a lifetime contract, particularly since it would not pay his family in the event of his death.” Futhermore, Fitch said this has nothing to do with money and that he’s never caused a problem for the UFC. “He wanted us to sign that merchandising agreement, and it was not a very good agreement,†Fitch said. “There was not really a reason for us to sign it. The first thing they brought to us was for us to sign all of our rights away for everything forever. It was for very small compensation, and there was no compensation for family members if we were to die…We could die and they could make memorial figurines and stuff and make thousands, millions of dollars, and our families wouldn’t see a penny of it. The way they bring the contracts and stuff to us, I don’t know, it’s just not how business is done.â€
Dana White is quoted as saying “Affliction is still out there trying to build its company. Let him go work with them. Let him see what he thinks of those (expletive). F**k him. These guys aren’t partners with us. F**k them. All of them, every last f**king one of them.â€
Jon Fitch has an outstanding record of 17 wins and 3 losses. He went undefeated in the UFC for 8 fights before losing a decision to Georges St. Pierre in a welterweight championship fight.
You know something isn’t right when Jon Fitch gets cut and Brock Lesnar and his 2-1 record (1-1 UFC) gets a title shot with Randy Couture.
Meanwhile, we’ve got Dana White cussing up a storm, and members of The Ultimate Fighter cast drinking each others piss and eating semen tainted food, they make Junie Browning seem normal and classy. Wonderful. Let’s not forget the stupid “Condom Depot” advertisements that fighters wear across the ass of their shorts.
Pure class. While bitching about the Jon Fitch/AKA fiasco, Dana White also bitched about the economy and how the fighters should get out there and find out just how tough it is in todays economy. I can tell you, he would make more money with the UFC and go mainstream a lot quicker, if he would do things a little bit differently. He could appeal to a wider audience.
Regardless, the UFC seems to be the only game in town right now, and they can try to make whoever they want disappear. I know, MMA loyalists are still wanting to see Fedor Emelianenko fight Randy Couture or Brock Lesnar. It’s not going to happen if Dana White doesn’t want it to. Why does Dana even have to let people know who Fedor is? The general public and casual MMA fan doesn’t know the name Fedor, only us who follow MMA religiously really know who he is. If UFC is the only brand with any recognition, they never even have to mention Fedor, they can let him be forgotten and tell the world that Brock Lesnar is teh greatest evah!!1
So can we count on the UFC having the worlds best fighters? Or maybe just the worlds best “yes-men”? I think Dana needs to give Rob Emerson a LW title shot. Then maybe he should give Houston Alexander a HW title shot.
At a press conference for UFC 94 (Bj Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre), Dana White was asked about the winner getting a shot at Anderson Silva, to which he replied “I think if Georges St. Pierre wins this fight, he’ll get Anderson Silva.” — Video is below, speed up to the 6:18 mark of the video to hear the reporters question and Dana White answer.
Now, my thoughts. Referee Steve Miragliotta still sucks beyond belief. Did he really poke Heath Herring in the eye during the staredown? Give me a break, Miragliotta, how does it feel to be known as the shittiest ref in the sport? In all fairness, I didn’t see the actual eyepoke, I just saw Herring turn away from him, I said “what happened” and then I heard Rogan and Goldberg talking about Dan Miragliotta poking Heath Herring in the eye. WTF.
Also, I noticed Goldberg is keeping more stats on the fighters now. For instance, tonight I learned nobody has ever passed Jon Fitch’s guard in the UFC (prior to tonights fight). Also, GSP has a 80% takedown rate. I think Goldberg even mentioned a takedown defense percentage. Kinda interesting stuff I guess.
Kenny Florian put on a technical clinic for Roger Huerta, and in my opinion, totally dominated the fight.
Brock Lesnar is a giant LNP machine. Ok, maybe thats unfair of me to say, after all, he did try to crush Heath Herring’s ribcage with knees, and he punches like a mule kicks, but was still unable to finish Herring. Props to Herring for being a tough SOB.
I was really hoping to see Manvel Gamburyan break off one of Rob Emerson’s limbs, but oh well, Emerson KO’d him in like 12 seconds. In case you’re not aware, Robert Emerson is the spoiled little rich kid who gangs up on innocent people at gas stations, with 12 of his friends.
Tonight at 11pm EST on SpikeTV, the countdown show to UFC 87: Seek And Destroy, featuring a main event matchup of Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch.
ST-PIERRE vs. FITCH @ UFC 87: SEEK AND DESTROY
AUGUST 9

Las Vegas, NV (USA) — The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s initial trip to Minnesota on August 9th just got bigger with today’s signing of the UFC® Welterweight Title bout between Champion Georges St. Pierre and number one contender Jon Fitch, which will headline the UFC 87: SEEK AND DESTROY card at Target Center.
It will be St-Pierre’s first bout since he regained his crown from Matt Serra at UFC 83 on April 19th. In Fitch, he will be facing a former Division I wrestler who has won eight consecutive UFC bouts without a loss, the longest streak in modern-day UFC history.
“He’s a very, very tough guy,†said St-Pierre of Fitch. “I’m gonna have to train hard and be very well prepared because he may be my toughest fight yet.â€
“The whole goal is to get the belt and be in the position where guys can’t duck me, run away, or say they don’t want to fight me,†said Fitch. “If I have the belt, there’s no excuse, and if you say you’re the best, then we’re gonna fight. This is gonna be a tough fight, but I’m gonna make sure I’m sharp that night, and wherever the fight needs to go, that’s fine with me.â€
In other action on the UFC 87 card, heavyweight sensation Brock Lesnar returns home for a pivotal bout in his rise up the UFC ranks. Lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta will also throw down in a highly anticipated bout that may determine a future challenger for the 155-pound crown.
“Roger Huerta versus Kenny Florian has the potential to be one of the most action packed fights of the year, both have won Fight of the Night awards and they are known for delivering nonstop action,” said Dana White, UFC President. “Kenny has established himself as one of the best in the world at 155 and he wants another shot at the title. Roger sports a 20-1 record and is undefeated in 6 UFC fights. That is an amazing accomplishment in one of MMA’s most competitive divisions.”
