UFC 134 in Brazil featuring Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami

Several good fights on this card. I am very glad to see Nogueira get his knockout victory over Brendan Schaub. I was worried it would end up opposite. I also figured Forrest Griffin would get unconscious, which he almost did, but was a TKO by Shogun Rua. Now Forrest Griffin and Shogun Rua have fought twice, and each has won one. Rematch? Also to consider, is Forrest Griffins wife was evidently in labor about to give birth to their child while Forrest was fighting.

I kind of figured Anderson Silva would run through Yushin Okami, and he did…a 2nd round TKO…I saw the moment where Okami decided he didn’t want anymore of this fight. He was dazed, and just quit defending himself. Chael Sonnen has been very outspoken about his dislike for Anderson Silva, and Chael has been training Yushin Okami for this fight, and repeatedly said how Okami was coming home with the championship belt. It didn’t happen. However, Chael did make a statement on his Twitter, saying “We call Andy “champ” like we call developmentally disabled animals “champ.” Good boy, Andy, good boy!

Also, I think there was a record number of hats stolen from fighters as they walked to the cage.

UFC 106 Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin Quick Picks

I am picking…
Jason Dent over George Sotiropoulos
Caol Uno over Fabricio Camoes
Brock Larson over Brian Foster
Kendall Grove over Jake Rosholt
Ben Saunders over Marcus Davis
Amir Sadollah over Phil Baroni (this was a tough one for me, I really like Baroni, one of the greatest evah.)
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira over Luiz Cane
Jacob Volkmann over Paulo Thiago in an unexpect upset.
Anthony Johnson over Josh Koscheck – should be great, and it’s a tough one for me to pick, I tend to think Koscheck is getting KO’d here, but I would actually like to see him win.

and… Tito Ortiz is going to ground and pound Forrest Griffin on his way to another UFC title.

Forrest Griffin Ran Out Of The Cage Because…

his jaw was dislocated, according to fairly credible reports. Supposedly he ran out and went straight to the medics, although he must have left the building quickly also, because I think Dana White joked something about Forrest probably being “almost back to Georgia by now.”

Random UFC 101 Comments..

TITO. He’ll be fighting Mark Coleman sometime in the near future.

Kendall Grove almost broke Ricardo Almeidas arm.. who woulda thought. Ricardo Almeida still won a decision.

Referee Dan Miragliotta still sucks.

LOL @ Forrest Griffin running out of the cage… and why does it seem like Anderson Silva’s punches hurt everyone so much worse than other people? I remember a straight right hand that sent James Irvin to the mat holding his face and curled in the fetal position. This one on Forrest was a backpeddling right jab that sent him down…WTF?

I felt embarrassed for Forrest.

BJ Penn vs Kenny Florian was a good fight, as I expected. Penn choked Florian into a tapout with a rear-naked choke. Penn is still dominant at 155lbs, because I believe Florian was the legit #1 contender.

Dana White wants to have a UFC event at Fenway Park in Boston sometime in the future.

Amir Sadollah
Forrest Griffin over Anderson Silva (what!?)
Kenny Florian over BJ Penn.. by doctors stoppage.

UFC 92 – Best UFC Event Ever?

A lot of people were expecting this to be the best UFC show ever, and the fight card certainly had some great match-ups.

Ryo Chonan vs. Brad Blackburn – Brad Blackburn won via decision

Dan Evensen vs. Pat Barry – Pat Barry won via TKO from kicks to the leg.

Matt Hamill vs. Reese Andy – Matt Hamill won via TKO from punches.

Antoni Hardonk vs. Mike Wessel – Hardonk won via TKO from punches.

Yushin Okami vs. Dean Lister – Okami won via decision.

Cheick Kongo vs. Mustafa Al-Turk – Cheick Kongo won via TKO from punches.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Quinton Rampage Jackson – Rampage won via KTFO out of Wanderlei.

CB Dollaway vs. Mike Massenzio – CB Dollaway won via TKO, but he got rocked early on and then it damn sure looked like he started to tap from a guillotine but the referee didn’t see it. I’ll need to see a .gif or replay.

Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira – Wow, total domination by Francisco Mir. TKO’d Nogueira in round 2.

Rashad Evans vs. Forrest Griffin – Rashad Evans won via TKO in round 3.

Forrest Griffin Is The New UFC Light Heavyweight Champion

…”of the world” as he wants to be known. Forrest Griffin outpaced Quinton Rampage Jackson to win a 5 round decision. Rampage was very humble in defeat, admitting that he got his “ass whupped” by Forrest. The judges scores were 48-46 twice and 49-46 for Griffin. Forrest used his handspeed to his advantage, as well as good leg kicks that hurt Jackson, but Forrest sometimes found himself in too close with Rampage, and was in danger of being caught by a Rampage Jackson combination full of uppercuts and hooks. With the win, Forrest Griffin improves to 16-4 and Quinton Jackson falls to 28-7.

In other results from the night:
Patrick Cote defeats Ricardo Almeida by split decision
Joe Stevenson defeats Gleison Tibau by guillotine choke (2nd round)
Josh Koscheck defeats Chris Lytle by unanimous decision (a bloody ass fight)
Tyson Griffin defeats Marcus Aurelio by unanimous decision
Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Justin McCully by kimura (1st round)
Cole Miller defeats Jorge Gurgel by triangle choke (3rd round)
Melvin Guillard defeats Dennis Siver by KO (1st round, 36 seconds)
Justin Buchholz defeats Corey Hill by rear naked choke (2nd round)

“Major Announcement” From Dana White

At the end of The Ultimate Fighter finale show on SpikeTV, Dana White announced that one of the coaches for next seasons show will be Forrest Griffin, who himself won the first season of The  Ultimate Fighter by defeating Stephan Bonnar in a historic brawl. Dana White says we have to “tune in” to the Video Game Awards show tomorrow on SpikeTV to find out who the other coach will be. Speculation by some is that the other coach will be Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the current light-heavyweight UFC champion.
