I wonder what Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping were saying to each other?
I wonder what Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping were saying to each other?
Joey Beltran def. Rolles Gracie – TKO (Punches) 1:31 R2
** Gracie looked terrible, not what I expected.
Chris Tuchscherer def. Tim Hague by majority decision (29-28, 29-28, and 28-28. This was an unpopular decision with the audience.
Phil Davis def. Brian Stann by decision.
Rob Emerson def. Phillipe Nover by unanimous decision.
Melvin Guillard def. Ronys Torres by unanimous decision.
Mac Danzig def. Justin Buchholz by unanimous decision.
Matt Serra def. Frank Trigg by TKO in round one.
Demian Maia def. Dan Miller by unanimous decision.
Paulo Thiago chokes out Mike Swick in round one.
Chael Sonnen dominated Nate Marquardt for a unanimous decision victory.
Randy Couture defeats Mark Coleman by rear naked choke in round two. Coleman refused to tap, and was about to pass out from the choke when the referee stopped the fight.
Rolles Gracie over Joey Beltran (I hope this fight is shown)
Chris Tuchscherer over Tim Hague
Brian Stann over Phil Davis
Phillipe Nover over Rob Emerson
Ronys Torres over Melvin Guillard
Justin Buchholz over Mac Danzig
Matt Serra over Frank Trigg
Demian Maia over Dan Miller
Mike Swick over Paulo Thiago
Chael Sonnen over Nate Marquardt
and RANDY COUTURE over MARK COLEMAN…
Brandon Vera defeats Krzysztof Soszynski by decision.
Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt – Holy shit Nate Marquardt hits hard. He drove a straight right hand into Demian Maia’s chin and put him out. Nate could have hit him several more times but stopped himself because he knew he was out. Demian Maia never even got a chance to show his jiu-jitsu. I suppose Nate will get a rematch with Anderson Silva now.
Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt – Round one ends with Chris Leben literally swinging to knock Rosholts head off. Big, wide swings from Leben, but none landed effectively. Man I was hoping for Leben to win this…but Rosholt ended up securing an arm triangle in round three and Leben goes to sleep, he’s left twitching on the ground, but he’s awake now and appears to be OK.
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, Chris Leben, you’re still one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC.
LOL, I think Bruce Buffer forgot Jake Rosholts last name, he announced the winner as “Jake……….Rosholt”
Add Todd Duffee to the list of people I want to see lose soon. He kind of seems like a dick. He KO’d Tim Hague in 7 seconds, and looked impressive, but like I said, he seems like a dick.
Joe Rogan mentions the UG’s hope of a Keith Jardine TechnoViking entrance, but it’s not happening tonight.
Oh hell, it’s on! Jardine with the pre-fight nipple tweak. That means this should be a tough fight for Silva… no it wasn’t…the nipple tweak failed, and Keith Jardine is KO’d in round one. He took a left hook and dropped to the mat, then Silva followed up with some punches on the ground to put Jardine unconscious.
Sign me up for the Ed Herman fan club. I’ve never really been a fan until tonight, but he’s a tough sumbitch. Unfortunately he got a knee injury and had to quit fighting in round two.
Who is this pony-tailed dude backstage warming up Randy Couture?
Well here we go, Randy Couture vs. Rodrigo Nogueira…I like both dudes, both legends, I’ll hate to see either of them go out on a bad note…but anyway, CAPTAIN F’N AMERICA RANDY COUTURE FTW.
This fight, after round one, is one of the most tense ever in my opinion. I like both guys, and they’ve both delivered their share of beating tonight so far.
Uh oh, Randy is in Nog’s guard now in round two. Will he GNP or will Nog get a submission?
Randy was in trouble several times but somehow survived everything, like CAPTAIN F’N AMERICA, this easily has to be fight of the night, and the winner is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by decision. GREAT FIGHT.
Randy says he wants to keep fighting in the future, he’s not ready to retire, says he feels great.
Other results from UFC 102 are:
POST FIGHT PRESS CONFERENCE NOTES:
Evan Dunham over Marcus Aurelio by decision
Mark Munoz over Nick Catone by TKO
Tim Hague over Todd Duffee by KO
Justin McCully over Mike Russow by decision
Gabriel Gonzaga over Chris Tuchscherer by KO (head kick)
Aaron Simpson over Ed Herman by KO
Krzysztof Soszynski over Brandon Vera by KO
Damien Maia over Nate Marquardt by submission
Chris Leben over Jake Rosholt by KO
I can’t make up my mind about Jardine vs. Silva… I’m thinking its a slugfest until someone gets KO’d in round 2.
I also am thinking that Randy Couture will knock out Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Maybe not exactly play-by-play, because I may be drinking and smoking, but I’ll at least try to post the winners and losers, along with random commentary about UFC 91… check this post for updates throughout the night.
::rooting for randy couture::
1st main card fight of the night
NATE QUARRY vs. DAMIEN MAIA – uhhh, this doesnt look good for Quarry so far. At all. Maia has his back with a body triangle locked on, looking for a RNC. Looks like he is under Nates’ chin right now, but not for very long, still got 3 minutes left in the round. it’s over now, 100% zhoozhitsu, Damien Maia by RNC, round 1. Also, Nate and Damien kissed on the mouth.
ring girl Arianny Celeste is looking hawt, as usual.
Randy backstage on the couch with his wife before the fight = fail?
2nd main card fight of the night
GABRIEL GONZAGA vs. JOSH HENDRICKS – Josh Hendricks is the dude who Randy Couture brought in to simulate Brock Lesnar for training. He enters the cage and looks around like he must be a badass, and his agent Ken Pavia says he’s going to KO Gonzaga in the first round. Also, Hendricks has some strange lumps all over him. PROPS to Gonzaga for teh awesome into music: Glenn Danzig “Mother“. Do you wanna butt heads with me?
LOL @ Hendricks KO’ing Gonzaga in round one. THE OPPOSITE happened. Gabriel Gonzaga knee’d him in the gut a couple times real hard, then put a fist against his chin real good FTW. Gabriel Gonzaga wins by TKO.
3rd fight of the night shown
MATT BROWN vs. RYAN THOMAS – They’re showing us this prelim fight because the first two ended quickly. It was a damn good fight really, Matt Brown ended up winning by armbar in round two.
4th Pay-per-view fight of the night
DUSTIN “McLovin” HAZELETT vs. TAMDEN “Barncat” McCRORY – People say this is the battle of the geeks. I think Rogan said the same thing back when McCrory fought Luke Cummo. Regardless, Dustin Hazelett is sporting an epic beard for this fight. Dude, I got to pick Hazelett for this fight, he’s walking out to CCR’s Bad Moon Risin’. Credence FTW. So far, these “nerds” are trying to knock eachother the hell out. Wow, that was a helluva fight, Hazelett has crazy jiujitsu and he used it well when the fight hit the ground. Joe Rogan is pimping the Rubber Guard, and rightfully so. Dustin Hazelett wins by armbar submission in round 1. Read the rest of this entry »
Now, my thoughts. Referee Steve Miragliotta still sucks beyond belief. Did he really poke Heath Herring in the eye during the staredown? Give me a break, Miragliotta, how does it feel to be known as the shittiest ref in the sport? In all fairness, I didn’t see the actual eyepoke, I just saw Herring turn away from him, I said “what happened” and then I heard Rogan and Goldberg talking about Dan Miragliotta poking Heath Herring in the eye. WTF.
Also, I noticed Goldberg is keeping more stats on the fighters now. For instance, tonight I learned nobody has ever passed Jon Fitch’s guard in the UFC (prior to tonights fight). Also, GSP has a 80% takedown rate. I think Goldberg even mentioned a takedown defense percentage. Kinda interesting stuff I guess.
Kenny Florian put on a technical clinic for Roger Huerta, and in my opinion, totally dominated the fight.
Brock Lesnar is a giant LNP machine. Ok, maybe thats unfair of me to say, after all, he did try to crush Heath Herring’s ribcage with knees, and he punches like a mule kicks, but was still unable to finish Herring. Props to Herring for being a tough SOB.
I was really hoping to see Manvel Gamburyan break off one of Rob Emerson’s limbs, but oh well, Emerson KO’d him in like 12 seconds. In case you’re not aware, Robert Emerson is the spoiled little rich kid who gangs up on innocent people at gas stations, with 12 of his friends.
Georges St. Pierre got his revenge on Matt Serra‘s upset victory last year by defeating him in the rematch by TKO in round 2 at UFC 83 tonight. GSP controlled the entire fight, opting to use his quick takedowns and wrestling to keep the fight on the ground and pound Matt Serra out. The final blows were some nasty looking knees to Matt Serra’s ribcage, and the referee stopped the fight because Serra quit defending.
The co-main event of the night was Rich Franklin vs. Travis Lutter. I was hoping for Lutter to win this fight, but evidently he has problems finishing armbars, because he had Franklin in what looked like a good armbar, but lost it. Travis Lutter just completely ran out of gas, and Franklin went to work, scoring a TKO victory in round 2.
Charles McCarthy vs. Michael Bisping went the way most people expected it to, with Bisping striking his way to victory. He looked really quick with his strikes, and McCarthy seemed to just cover up with his arms and wait for Bisping to quit striking, in return, I think McCarthy forearm got trashed. He was unable to continue after the completion of round 1.
The other main-card results were:
Mac Danzig def. Mark Bocek by submission (RNC) – Round 2
MIchael Bisping def. Charles McCarthy by TKO (injured arm) – Round 1
Nathan Quarry def. Kalib Starnes by Unanimous Decision – Round 3
Rich Franklin def. Travis Lutter by TKO (strikes) – Round 2
Georges St. Pierre def. Matt Serra by TKO (strikes) – Round 2
Here are the results from the UFC 83 Preliminary Fights:
Jason MacDonald def. Joe Doerksen by TKO (strikes) – Round 2
Jason Day def. Alan Belcher by TKO (strikes) – Round 1
Demian Maia def. Ed Herman by submission (triangle) – Round 2
Rich Clementi def. Sam Stout by split decision
Cain Valesquez def. Brad Morris by TKO (strikes) – Round 1
Jonathan Goulet def. Kuniyoshi Hironaka by TKO (strikes) – Round 2
