So… Cris “Cyborg” Santos Tests Positive For Performance Enhancing Drugs.

Not really a big surprise to me, just judging from looks. The Strikeforce women’s champion Cris “Cyborg” Santos tested positive for “performance enhancing drugs”, a result she blames on taking some kind of dietary supplement to cut weight. Whatever, I’m not sure what this means for her future, but I think Dana White said she’ll be stripped of her championship title, and her last fight has been ruled a “No contest”.

Fedor Tapped. Fabricio Werdum Makes History.

Fabricio Werdum has shocked the MMA world by forcing the previously unbeatable Fedor Emelianenko to tap out due to a triangle/armbar submission at tonights Strikeforce event.

Fedor dazed Werdum at the beginning, and knocked him down but proceeded to follow Werdum into his guard, which was Fedor’s downfall. After the fight Fabricio Werdum acknowledged that although he won tonight, Fedor is still the best fighter in the world.

So what is the future for Fedor? There was retirement rumors a few weeks ago, but will he now feel like he needs to fight again and go out on a win?

Other results from the event:
Cung Le defeats Scott Smith by TKO/RSC 2nd 1:46
Cris Santos defeats Jan Finney by TKO/RSC 2nd 2:56
Josh Thomson defeats Patrick Healy by Submission 3rd 4:27

This Strikeforce Event Is Going To Be Great…

I am anxiously awaiting the event to start. This card is full of potentially great fights. Here are my picks to win:

BOBBY LASHLEY VS WES SIMS – I would love to see Wes Sims win this, but he won’t. Bobby Lashley will take him down and get the win.

HERSCHEL WALKER VS GREG NAGY – Herschel FTW.

ROBBIE LAWLER VS MELVIN MANHOEF – This fight will end in an awesome way. I would *like* to see Robbie Lawler win this, and I believe he can KO Manhoef, but we’ll see. Someone is getting KO’d.

CRISTIANE CYBORG SANTOS VS MARLOES COENEN – Hmmm.. can anyone really beat Cyborg? I would like to see Marloes win, but I don’t really see it happening.

NICK DIAZ VS MARIUS ZAROMSKIS – I want Diaz to win this. I don’t know much about Zaromskis, except that he has awesome striking (kicks in particular) and does some cool backflips during his fights. He could KO Diaz, but I’ve never seen Diaz KO’d, and I don’t think it will happen tonight.

Strikeforce: Gina Carano vs. Cyborg RESULTS

Well damn, I’m sad tonight. I just watched Gina Carano get beat down by Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos for the Strikeforce women’s 145lb championship. Gina was in there to fight, and she showed she has great heart, but I don’t predict anyone beating Cyborg for awhile. Cyborg looked better striking, although Carano did land several good striked of her own. Cyborg went for takedowns a couple of times but ended up in Gina’s mount, once Gina let her up, and I’m not sure why she did that. All in all, it was a pretty dominant performance by Cyborg, and the fight ended with Gina on the mat and Cyborg raining down punches when the referee stepped in to stop the fight with just 1 second left in round one (see below). Cristiane Cyborg Santos wins by TKO @ 4:59 of round one.

Scott Lighty defeats Mike Cook by TKO (body punch) in round one
Jay Hieron defeats Jesse Taylor by unanimous decision

Strikeforce: Nick Diaz vs. Frank Shamrock

Dude I’ve been looking forward to this fight more than most in recent months. I’m also hoping Nick Diaz kicks that ass jiu-jitsu style to defend his Sensei.

Alistair Overeem in the audience. Wasn’t he just in the UFC audience earlier this year?

Brett Rogers vs. Abongo Humphrey to start the show off.
Round one is going pretty good until Herb Dean stops to warn Brett Rogers about grabbing Humphrey’s dreadlocks. I say bullshit. Humphrey was in a thai clinch, and Rogers just about can’t help but get a palm full of hair when he’s clinching. Herb Dean took a point away from Rogers. Crappy call, imo.

Kevin Randleman in the house, hugging it out with Mickey Rourke.

Round two sees Brett Rogers crush Abongo Humphreys with knees before referee Herb Dean stops the fight, giving Brett Rogers a TKO victory, and he remains undefeated.

Hitoni Akano vs. Cris Cyborg
Cyborg kicked Hitoni Akanos ass for 2.5 rounds before getting a TKO victory in round 3.

Benji Radach vs. Scott Smith
Someone is getting knocked out in this fight. It’s over now, and Scott Smith was getting his ass kicked for most of the fight, and landed a gnarly right hand to comeback and win by knockout over Benji Radach…LOL @ Smith thanking mis masseuse Tom Atencio at the post-fight interview.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Rodrigo Damm
I’d like to see Rodrigo Damm win this. But he didn’t. Gilbert Melendez got the KO victory in round 2. Rodrigo Damm got KTFO. Melendez is now the interim lightweight champion.

Nick Diaz vs. Frank Shamrock
One thing you can be sure of, is that Nick Diaz will give a middle finger at some point tonight. Round one was good, I score it in Diaz’ favor. He got the fight to the ground and controlled it, even gaining mount and throwing down some punches at the end of the round.

Nick Diaz TOTALLY dominated round 2 and got a TKO victory after making Shamrock’s face a bloody mess and dropping him to the mat against the canvas, where Shamrock didn’t defend himself and the referee had to stop the fight. Diaz immediately offered his hand to help Shamrock off the mat. Contrary to what I said previously, I haven’t seen Diaz give anybody the bird yet.
