Watching “KNUCKLE” Documentary About The Irish Travellers and Their Bare-knuckle Boxing Traditions and Family Feuds

I like documentaries anyway, and I like documentaries about bare-knuckle boxing even more. This is a great film, and any boxing fan or martial arts fan should enjoy watching this. Most of the fighters are related to each other, all coming from Irish Travellers. There are some brutal fights, although surprisingly not many clean KO’s in the movie. Some of the guys beat the hell out of each other for over an hour, it seems like it’s not unusual for fights to go 30+ minutes, no breaks, pure fisticuffs, stand-up boxing…well, and some biting. I watched it on Netflix, streamed it instantly to my TV. Check out the preview below.

SHINE Fights: Ricardo Mayorga vs. Din Thomas CANCELLED By Don King?

LOL…that is a bummer. I thoroughly enjoyed one of the Mayorga/Thomas press conferences I watched, and was hoping to see them fight, but apparently Don King did not want to see it.

FightZone TV Enters Fourth year Of Broadcasting with “Unconquered Begins”

FightZone TV enters their fourth year of broadcasting the best of MMA events from around the country and UK with the premier of AFL1: “Unconquered Begins, Rumble At The Rock” which was held recently at the Seminole Hard Rock in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and features some of the top Florida MMA teams’ champions such as Ariel Gandulla of Bradenton, Fl. who took on Danny Babcock from Palm Bay, Fl. Bounmy Somchay of West Palm Beach as he squared off against Miami Street fighting and Youtube sensation Rene “Level” Martinez in his first professional MMA fight.

And as is often the case, the girls fight between Jessica Pene (6-0) who fought in Bellator and Angela Magana was one of the highlights of the evening.

Fight Zone TV’s Jay Adams, as always, was there to call the action and was joined by well known “E Hollywood True Stories” and “Celebrity Poker” television host A.J. Benza and former UFC veteran Din Thomas with Guest Announcer – Damian Pinto, longtime voice of Big Vision/Don King Productions in the cage.

An interesting impromptu challenge was caught on tape during Jay’s interview in the cage with celebrity guest, 3 times Boxing Heavyweight Champion of the World Michael Moorer who wound up challenging Kimbo Slice, also in the house, to a $5 million epic clash of the titans (see video below). Tune into Unconquered and FightZone TV’s next presentation to see where the callout goes.

Lack of blog posts…

Obviously, even though there have been some tremendous fights to talk about over the last couple of weeks, I haven’t made any posts. That will hopefully change soon. I have been extremely busy with other things, and I also need to get off my ass and upgrade everything on this site.

Off the top of my head, some things I’ve missed.

Tim Credeur and Nate Quarry are both badass.

UFC Fight Night 19 was great.

This season of The Ultimate Fighter looks like it really might be the best one yet.

Mayweather needs to fight someone his size. I was hoping for Pacquaio, but a Shane Mosely fight would be good too.

Herschel Walker signed a contract to fight for Strikeforce? I think it’s awesome, even though others are acting like they don’t care. I like watching these celebrities and non-MMA athletes get in the ring. I say non-MMA, but supposedly Herschel has been training MMA for several years now, and also has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

VITOR! (although I am a big Rich Franklin fan)

I’m sad for CroCop, but the dude is no doubt tough as nails, he took a serious beating, and it looked to me like he got his orbital bone broken, ouch.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquio LIVE RESULTS

Check back here for results immediately following the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquio boxing match. I won’t be at my desk to do play-by-play, but I will post the winner as soon as the fight ends.

…and it’s over. Oscar De La Hoya failed to answer the bell for round 9, after being totally dominated by Manny Pacquio in every previous round. Pacquio is badass. De La Hoya just couldn’t find his target, and could barely land a jab because of Pacquio’s to his constant head movement.

Joe Calzaghe Defeats Roy Jones Jr.

Aside from a 10-8 first round in the favor Roy Jones, Jr., Joe Calzaghe pretty much dominated the whole fight. He simply outpunched Jones, and cut up Jones’ left eyepiece on his way to a 12-round unanimous decision victory. Joe Calzaghe improves his record to an undefeated 46-0, and Roy Jones Jr.’s record now stands at 52-5.

Roy Jones Jr. vs Joe Calzaghe

Joe Calzaghe puts his undefeated record on the line tonight against one of the all-time greats. I’m hoping Roy Jones wins this. I have nothing against Joe Calzaghe, but Roy is a Florida boy (represent). I don’t know if Roy Jones Jr’s best days are behind him or not, but tonights fight should be a good indicator. On a sidenote, Anderson Silva still wants to box Roy Jones Jr. sometime in the future. I’d like to see that happen.

Anderson Silva — “I’ll Retire Next Year”

InTheGuard.tv is reporting that Anderson Silva was recently interviewed by Brazilian TV station SporTV and said he would retire next year. This comes as a surprise, but we do know he has expressed a lot of interest in squaring of with Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match, and Dana White told him he wouldn’t allow it to happen. We also know Anderson Silva has said he wouldn’t fight his friend, Paulo Filho, the 185-lb champion of Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting.
