So Jon Fitch Is Back In The UFC now?

So Fitch is back in the UFC now, only one day after being cut for not signing some kind of licensing agreement. I first saw the news confirmed by MMARated, who said Jon Fitch spoke to Lorenzo Fertitta by phone and “cleared the air.” Jon Fitch agreed to sign the video game licensing agreement and will still be scheduled to fight Akihiro Gono at UFC 94. They say Fitch still hadn’t spoke with Dana White and that “communication kind of broke down with Dana, so we talked to Lorenzo

Fitch is also quoted as saying “It was never even about the agreement or the contract. It was the approach that we felt Dana was being a little bit hot-headed and was threatening us right off the bat. It didn’t seem like a professional way of doing things.”

So I’m not sure if any changes were made to the agreement or if Fitch just decided to sign it as-is. Regardless, it seems as though Lorenzo and Dana are playing “good cop/bad cop.”

Anyway, I’m glad Fitch is still in the UFC for now. Where does this leave the other AKA fighters?

UFC Cuts JON FITCH From Roster — WTF?!

MMAMania broke the news, and it’s a ridiculous decision by the UFC to cut Jon Fitch. Also, Dana White is supposedly pissed off at the entire AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) group of fighters, and won’t be doing business with them anymore. According to Kevin Iole, Dana White said he will keep AKA welterweight Mike Swick because he said Swick called him and told him he wants to keep fighting for the UFC. However, as Jon Fitch and heavyweight Christian Wellisch were cut, heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez and welterweight Josh Koscheck could be next.

Seriously, what the hell? Fitch said Wednesday that the reason he was cut was because he wouldn’t sign a lifetime contract to allow the UFC to use his name and likeness in a video game. He said he “simply didn’t understand the need to sign a lifetime contract, particularly since it would not pay his family in the event of his death.” Futhermore, Fitch said this has nothing to do with money and that he’s never caused a problem for the UFC. “He wanted us to sign that merchandising agreement, and it was not a very good agreement,” Fitch said. “There was not really a reason for us to sign it. The first thing they brought to us was for us to sign all of our rights away for everything forever. It was for very small compensation, and there was no compensation for family members if we were to die…We could die and they could make memorial figurines and stuff and make thousands, millions of dollars, and our families wouldn’t see a penny of it. The way they bring the contracts and stuff to us, I don’t know, it’s just not how business is done.”

Dana White is quoted as saying “Affliction is still out there trying to build its company. Let him go work with them. Let him see what he thinks of those (expletive). F**k him. These guys aren’t partners with us. F**k them. All of them, every last f**king one of them.”

Jon Fitch has an outstanding record of 17 wins and 3 losses. He went undefeated in the UFC for 8 fights before losing a decision to Georges St. Pierre in a welterweight championship fight.

You know something isn’t right when Jon Fitch gets cut and Brock Lesnar and his 2-1 record (1-1 UFC) gets a title shot with Randy Couture.

Meanwhile, we’ve got Dana White cussing up a storm, and members of The Ultimate Fighter cast drinking each others piss and eating semen tainted food, they make Junie Browning seem normal and classy. Wonderful. Let’s not forget the stupid “Condom Depot” advertisements that fighters wear across the ass of their shorts.

Pure class. While bitching about the Jon Fitch/AKA fiasco, Dana White also bitched about the economy and how the fighters should get out there and find out just how tough it is in todays economy. I can tell you, he would make more money with the UFC and go mainstream a lot quicker, if he would do things a little bit differently. He could appeal to a wider audience.

Regardless, the UFC seems to be the only game in town right now, and they can try to make whoever they want disappear. I know, MMA loyalists are still wanting to see Fedor Emelianenko fight Randy Couture or Brock Lesnar. It’s not going to happen if Dana White doesn’t want it to. Why does Dana even have to let people know who Fedor is? The general public and casual MMA fan doesn’t know the name Fedor, only us who follow MMA religiously really know who he is. If UFC is the only brand with any recognition, they never even have to mention Fedor, they can let him be forgotten and tell the world that Brock Lesnar is teh greatest evah!!1

So can we count on the UFC having the worlds best fighters? Or maybe just the worlds best “yes-men”? I think Dana needs to give Rob Emerson a LW title shot. Then maybe he should give Houston Alexander a HW title shot.

UFC 91 Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture RESULTS As They Happen

Maybe not exactly play-by-play, because I may be drinking and smoking, but I’ll at least try to post the winners and losers, along with random commentary about UFC 91… check this post for updates throughout the night.

::rooting for randy couture::

1st main card fight of the night
NATE QUARRY vs. DAMIEN MAIA – uhhh, this doesnt look good for Quarry so far. At all. Maia has his back with a body triangle locked on, looking for a RNC. Looks like he is under Nates’ chin right now, but not for very long, still got 3 minutes left in the round. it’s over now, 100% zhoozhitsu, Damien Maia by RNC, round 1. Also, Nate and Damien kissed on the mouth.

ring girl Arianny Celeste is looking hawt, as usual.

Randy backstage on the couch with his wife before the fight = fail?

2nd main card fight of the night
GABRIEL GONZAGA vs. JOSH HENDRICKS – Josh Hendricks is the dude who Randy Couture brought in to simulate Brock Lesnar for training. He enters the cage and looks around like he must be a badass, and his agent Ken Pavia says he’s going to KO Gonzaga in the first round. Also, Hendricks has some strange lumps all over him. PROPS to Gonzaga for teh awesome into music: Glenn Danzig “Mother“. Do you wanna butt heads with me?

LOL @ Hendricks KO’ing Gonzaga in round one. THE OPPOSITE happened. Gabriel Gonzaga knee’d him in the gut a couple times real hard, then put a fist against his chin real good FTW. Gabriel Gonzaga wins by TKO.

3rd fight of the night shown
MATT BROWN vs. RYAN THOMAS – They’re showing us this prelim fight because the first two ended quickly. It was a damn good fight really, Matt Brown ended up winning by armbar in round two.

4th Pay-per-view fight of the night
DUSTIN “McLovin” HAZELETT vs. TAMDEN “Barncat” McCRORY – People say this is the battle of the geeks. I think Rogan said the same thing back when McCrory fought Luke Cummo. Regardless, Dustin Hazelett is sporting an epic beard for this fight. Dude, I got to pick Hazelett for this fight, he’s walking out to CCR’s Bad Moon Risin’. Credence FTW. So far, these “nerds” are trying to knock eachother the hell out. Wow, that was a helluva fight, Hazelett has crazy jiujitsu and he used it well when the fight hit the ground. Joe Rogan is pimping the Rubber Guard, and rightfully so. Dustin Hazelett wins by armbar submission in round 1. Read the rest of this entry »

Amir Sadollah Out Of UFC 91

Amir Sadollah won’t be fighting this weekend at UFC 91 because of a leg infection of some type, according to the UFC. They couldn’t find a replacement for Sadollah in time, so Dustin Hazelett vs. Tamden McCrory has been moved to the main card. That’s not a bad thing, I want to see the Hazelett/Tamden fight.

Joe Calzaghe Defeats Roy Jones Jr.

Aside from a 10-8 first round in the favor Roy Jones, Jr., Joe Calzaghe pretty much dominated the whole fight. He simply outpunched Jones, and cut up Jones’ left eyepiece on his way to a 12-round unanimous decision victory. Joe Calzaghe improves his record to an undefeated 46-0, and Roy Jones Jr.’s record now stands at 52-5.

Roy Jones Jr. vs Joe Calzaghe

Joe Calzaghe puts his undefeated record on the line tonight against one of the all-time greats. I’m hoping Roy Jones wins this. I have nothing against Joe Calzaghe, but Roy is a Florida boy (represent). I don’t know if Roy Jones Jr’s best days are behind him or not, but tonights fight should be a good indicator. On a sidenote, Anderson Silva still wants to box Roy Jones Jr. sometime in the future. I’d like to see that happen.

MOVIE: Confessions Of A Pit Fighter, starring Rampage Jackson

I was browsing through Blockbuster today, and saw a DVD on the wall called Confessions Of A Pit Fighter. Quinton Jackson is in it. Oh and also Flavor Flav is in it. I rented it.

“In the pit fight game, you learn quick that no bell is gonna save you” – one of the opening lines.

So far, it looks like a bad version of Never Back Down, which was already bad enough. But this movie is about gangsters pit fighting, instead of high school kids pit fighting. If you want to know how low-budget the movie is, one of the gangstas in the movie is wearin a Penn State football jersey, and the “Penn” is blurred out, I suppose because they didn’t want to pay royalties or whatever. Look for the scene where a gangsta falls out of a window.

Also, after many years of watching thousands of movies, I’ve figured out a couple of rules when renting movies. Those rules are:

  1. If Armand Assante is in the movie, it gonna sucks. He will also seem like the same character he played in whatever other movies he was in.
  2. If Rampage Jackson and Flavor Flav are in the movie, I’ll probably rent it.

Mike Brown KO’s Urijah Faber To Claim WEC Featherweight Championship Title

For a short fight, it was awesome. The ending was great, but not for Urijah Faber. Mike Brown scored a takedown, Faber got back up and was in awkward position with his back towards Brown. Faber tried to throw a good backwards elbow, and almost connected, but his chin ran into Mike Browns right fist. Urijah Faber fell to the ground and turtled up, and Mike Brown capitalized by landing a million punches to Fabers dome before the referee stopped the fight. Mike Brown is the new WEC Featherweight Champ.

Chris Leben Fails Drug Test After Fight With Michael Bisping

Chris Leben pissed dirty (link), and has been suspended for 9 months from the UFC, and was fined a third of his purse for that fight, after testing positive for the steroid Stanazol (Winstrol V).

Dana White said “I am obviously disappointed with Chris, who has made great strides getting his life back on track. To his credit, he has taken responsibility for his actions and is accepting the punishment that has been handed down. But as always, the UFC puts the safety of its athletes first and foremost, and we won’t tolerate anyone using performance enhancing drugs in our organization.”

Chris Leben said “I’ve really done everything I can to turn my life around, and this is a huge setback for me. But it’s something I will have to deal with. During my time off from fighting, I want to speak to kids about the dangers of using performance enhancing agents and let them know it just doesn’t get you ahead in life. Of course, this is a hard hit for me monetarily, but more so this is embarrassing for me and for all my fans.”
