UFC 90 Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote RESULTS

Disappointment. The fight was interesting, and Patrick Cote lasted longer with Anderson Silva than anyone else in the UFC so far. It didn’t seem like Silva was as offensive as he usually is, he was constantly backing up and letting Cote force the pressure, however, Silva still connected with precision and was winning the fight up until Patrick Cote injured his knee and couldn’t continue.

I predict we’ll see Anderson Silva fight again very soon, probably within just a couple of months, as UFC Matchmakers will want to make up to fans for tonights disappointment.

PROPS TO JOE ROGAN FOR HIS EVAN TANNER TRIBUTE BEARD.

Other results from UFC 90 are:
Pete Sell beat Josh Burkman by unanimous decision
Hermes Franca beat Marcus Aurelio by unanimous decision
Dan Miller beat Matt Horwich by unanimous decision
Spencer Fisher beat Shannon Gugerty by third-round submission (triangle choke)
Thales Leites beat Drew McFedries by first-round submission (rear-naked choke)
Sean Sherk beat Tyson Griffin by unanimous decision
Junior “Cigano” dos Santos defeated Fabricio Werdum by first-round KO
Gray Maynard beats Rich Clementi by unanimous decision
Thiago Alves beat Josh Koscheck by unanimous decision

Luke Cummo Arrested For Driving On Weed?

That’s what is being reported. Sucks that he got pulled over, but if it’s just weed, I can’t fault him too much. Hopefully a good lawyer can get the charges dropped. I was going to post more details of what I’ve heard, but out of respect for Luke I will hold off until the legal problems are out of the way.

Basically, Luke Cummo was arrested about 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 in Franklin Square, N.Y., and charged with driving while impaired, according to a public information officer for the Nassau County Police Department. Cummo was not charged with drunk driving, and police could not specify what drug Cummo is alleged to have had in his system; the courts will determine that by a piss test.

EliteXC/Pro Elite Out Of Business — Where will Kimbo & Gina Go?

Wow, that didn’t take long. Seth Petruzelli single-handedly took down EliteXC  by knocking out their primary superstar, Kimbo Slice, in 14 seconds. Not only that, but there was controversy after the fight when it was found out that EliteXC paid Seth Petruzelli to keep the fight standing up. It sounds like the EliteXC parent company, Pro Elite, is officially done now, with the November 8th show cancelled and a fight between Nick Diaz and Eddie Alvarez that will not happen on that date.

It will be interesting to see where some of the EliteXCstar fighters end up. Gina Carano will probably go to Affliction. What will happen with Kimbo Slice? Will we ever see Gina Carano vs. Cristiane Cyborg?

UFC 89 Commentary By Me

No I’m not doing play-by-play, because I’m not watching the event LIVE, and I’m also too buzzed to do any kind of PBP. I’ve been careful not to read any spoilers for this non-live in the U.S. event…so this will just be random comments from me. First of all, go sign up on our UFC Forum and start a thread about something.

Joe Rogan is rockin’ a phenomenal Evan Tanner Tribute Beard tonight. I tried to grow one, but the best I can manage is some sweet sideburns and an awesome goatee/mustache, with patchy spots in between.

Goldberg said Paul Kelly and Marcus Davis are both freight trains (aka FRATE TRANE!).

I noticed this British referee for the Kelly/Davis fight says “let’s dance!” before the fight. I dig that. I’ve always said that THIS SONG would make great entrance music for a fighter.

Marcus Davis via Guillotine Choke, round 2.

If I don’t post for a few fights, it’s because I’m taking a break…and maybe went to get something to eat frmo the kitchen…or smoke.

Oh and BTW, I still hate those stupid ass Condom Depot ads on the fighters shorts. Ridiculous shit for a sport trying to go mainstream.

Damn, Sokoudjou is 1-2 now in the UFC. Luiz Cane by TKO.

TEKNO-VIKING POWER ON!!1! WAR JARDINE. I seriously hope Keith Jardine wins this fight versus Brandon Vera. Jardine does the pre-fight nipple tweak, made famous by Greg Jackson’s fighters. First round was pretty damn good. Ended with Jardine swinging bombs upside Brandon Vera’s head.

Well, that fight is over. If I were a judge, I’d give it to Jardine, but maybe I’m just prejudice because Brandon Vera has hyped himself up so much since he began his UFC career, and hasn’t really been super impressive, in my opinion. To quote Georges St. Pierre, “I am not impressed with your performance”. Neither were 2 out of 3 judges, because they gave a split decision victory to Keith Jardine.

Leben vs. Bisping: Chris Leben got picked apart in round one, imo. He moved forward the whole time, but ate a lot of punches and probably got his nose broke. I don’t think he can win this fight, he needs to land a KO bomb to win. LOL @ Chris Leben at the end of the fight. He is a bad mofo for sure, but he got his ass kicked tonight. Then in the post-fight interview, Michael Bisping said his game plan was to get a unanimous decision victory. I wish Leben would’ve KO’d him, but oh well… Leben says it was his favorite fight ever.

WARNING: Don’t Get Spoiled Tomorrow! UFC 89 is Early

I wouldn’t recommend visiting any MMA websites online tomorrow, as UFC 89 takes place at like 2pm Eastern Time in the United States, but won’t be broadcast on TV until later that night. However, most MMA websites will probably report the results on their front page long before most people in the U.S. get to see the fights.

Frank Shamrock vs. Ken Shamrock: “Contract Signed”

An article on ESPN.com says that a contract has been signed for Frank Shamrock to fight his brother Ken Shamrock in what would be the first known professional MMA fight to feature brother against brother. The article says the fight will probably take place sometime in April of 2009, under the EliteXC brand.

They have each signed a contract, in principle, to settle their family feud in a most public fashion: they will face off, in a cage, in a pay-per-view contest.

There are plenty of particulars to iron out, like the date (probably sometime in April), the venue (none has been chosen) and the promotional and broadcast partners to be involved (Elite XC, CBS, and Showtime, with perhaps some other co-promoters), before what is believed to be the first brother vs. brother faceoff in fight history becomes a 100 percent done deal.

“We’ve both signed a contract to fight each other,” younger brother Frank Shamrock told ESPN.com. “Ken is down with it. We talked about it two years ago, and we’ve agreed materially to fight.”

“Will the fight happen? Absolutely,” Ken Shamrock told ESPN.com. “He’s got a buttkicking coming to him. Everything I’ve learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I’ve still got love for Frank, but I’m angry at him.”

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski scheduled for January 24, 2009

MMARated is reporting that Affliction VP Tom Atencio confirmed with them that Fedor Emelianenko will be fighting Andrei Arlovski on the January 24th Affliction show. The event will be an MMA only event, but was originally supposed to be a MMA & Boxing event, co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, however, Atencio said “We sat down with them and couldn’t come up with a main event boxing match that everyone wanted.”

This fight will be for the WAMMA Heavyweight Championship

Former UFC Fighter JOE SON Arrested; Charged With GANG RAPE.

Dude is facing up to 275 years in prison. I always knew Joe Son was a weirdo, he even once showed up to fight in a thong. Joe Son is best known to MMA fans as the guy who got punched in the balls repeatedly by Keith Hackney, and was also Kimo’s sidekick in the early UFC days. You think Kimo had anything to do with this gang rape? Let’s check that DNA database! Joe Son also played the character named Random Task in the Austin Powers movies as Dr. Evil’s sidekick. The disturbing news of Joe Son’s arrest comes courtesy of TMZ.com, who writes:

TMZ has learned the actor who played Random Task in the first “Austin Powers” movie has been charged with a vicious gang rape.

Joe Son’s arrest has been all over newspapers in the O.C., but no one connected the dots — that the suspect is actually Dr. Evil’s henchman — until now.

Here’s how it all went down. Son pleaded guilty back in May to felony vandalism. The plea required him to fork over a DNA sample. Investigators ran his sample and found Son’s DNA connected him to an unsolved gang rape back in 1990, where a woman was pistol-whipped, raped, threatened with death and eventually blindfolded and released naked.

Son has been charged with five felony counts of rape, two felony counts of forcible sodomy, two felony counts of sodomy in concert by force, seven felony counts of forcible oral copulation, and one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force.

Son faces a maximum sentence of 275 years to life if convicted.

Seth Petruzelli Knocks Out Kimbo Slice

…and with that, EliteXC’s major investment takes a hit, but they’re already giving Kimbo excuses. Mauro Renallo suggests giving Kimbo a “mulligan” for taking the fight on short notice and Seth Petruzelli filling in for Ken Shamrock. I want to see the replay again, because supposedly Jarrod Shaw can be seen in the background screaming something to the referee…probably not wanting to see his companies biggest star lose.

Seth Petruzelli To Replace Injured Ken Shamrock Against Kimbo Slice

Ken Shamrock Injured; Will Not Fight Kimbo Slice Tonight?

According to MMARated.com, Shamrock was cut above his eye and doctors wouldn’t clear him to fight. Damn. But there is some hope! MMARated has updated their site to say that EliteXC may have found a doctor to give Shamrock the OK to fight, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed, and also they say Seth Petruzelli was offered as a replacement. Seth Petruzelli, in my opinion, has a better chance of kicking Kimbo’s ass. Frank Shamrock is also rumored to have stepped up and volunteered, but will not be fighting.

Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson, and Mark Coleman vs. Shogun Rua @ UFC 93!

Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin is a fight I’ve wanted to see for a long time now. Should be an action packed stand-up war. The fight is scheduled to take place at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland.

In a news release, Dan Henderson said “This is the fight my fans have wanted for a long time now, and they want to see me fight Rich Franklin.” Henderson continued “I think this will be a great fight for Ireland. It definitely will be exciting because we both like to stand and bang, and we both have knockout power. I’m excited to go to Ireland and to take on Rich; I think he’s a tough opponent and a huge challenge, but I don’t see myself losing to him.”

Rich Franklin had a similar statement, but of course sees himself winning the battle, saying ““Dan Henderson has great credentials, and he is going to be one of the toughest fights of my career, that being said, I’m planning on winning the fight, and I’m looking forward to fighting in the main event and fighting in Ireland. I love the fans, and the way they react by singing and chanting makes it a unique experience for me.”

Also scheduled for the same night is a rematch between Mark Coleman and Mauricia “Shogun” Rua. In February 2006, Mark Coleman defeated Shogun Rua at PRIDE 31 when Rua landed wrong and suffered a broken arm, ending the fight after only 49 seconds.
