UFC 111

Wow… I guess Frank Mir was so focused on Brock Lesnar that he forgot about fighting Shane Carwin? I couldn’t believe Mir was standing there looking like he wanted to slug it out with Carwin, who continues his streak of ending fights in the 1st round. He has never had a fight go longer than 1 round, and all end by KO.

The main event of the night, was totally dominated by Georges St. Pierre. Many people are saying it was a boring fight, but whatever, it was dominated from start to finish by GSP and his unstoppable takedowns. GSP apologized aferward to his fans for not finishing Dan Hardy off.

Same thing with Jon Fitch… decision, as usual. Three rounds of dominating Ben Saunders for a unanimous decision.

Other fight results were:
Matt Riddle won by DQ after winning the first two rounds, when in the 3rd round his opponent, Greg Soto kicked him with an illegal upkick while Riddle was down. The doctor stopped the fight because it appeared Riddle was not going to recover.

Jared Hamann defeated Rodney Wallace via decision

Rousimar Palhares defeated Tomasz Drwal via nasty heel hook after Drwal slipped while throwing a kick and landed on his back. Palhares immediately locked on a heel hook and didn’t let go, even when Drwal tapped, even when the ref tried to stop it, Palhares kept torquing the  heel hook. Ouch. Palhares apologized afterward.

Ricardo Almeida defeated Matt Brown in Round 2 via triangle submission.

Nate Diaz looked very impressive, beating up the bigger opponent Rory Markham and scoring a TKO stoppage in round 1.

Jim Miller defeated Mark Bocek by decision

Kurt Pellegrino defeated Fabricio Camoes by rear naked choke in Round 2.

UFC 111 Picks

I’m thinking this is going to be a good show!

Ricardo Almeida over Matt Brown by submission
Nate Diaz over Rory Markham by sub
Jim Miller over Mark Bocek
Ben Saunders over Jon Fitch
Kurt Pellegrino over Fabricio Camoes
Frank Mir over Shane Carwin
Georges St. Pierre over Dan Hardy

I like Shane Carwin, I hope he does well…but I ultimately hope for a 3rd match between Mir/Lesnar… although Carwin/Lesnar is very interesting also!

Thiago Alves Out of UFC 111 With Career-Threatening Brain Condition

I saw the news from Dana White’s twitter about TMZ.com covering a story, so I went to TMZ to see what’s up and find out Thiago Alves won’t fight at Saturday’s UFC 111 due to a CAT Scan showing an irregularity in his brain. Jon Fitch will now fight Ben Saunders at the event.

UFC 111 Pre-Fight Press Conference

Shane Carwin hasn’t showed up.

Dana says the winner of Mir/Carwin will fight Brock Lesnar this summer.

Lots of press kissing Dana’s ass, one begging for free tickets.

UFC considering an event in Orlando (THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN).

I think some chick just asked Frank Mir to choke her out.

Someone asked Dana about Jake Shields and Fedor Emelianko… Dana says he likes Jake and its obvious that Strikeforce is trying to get him beat by having him fight at 185lbs when he’s the 170lb champ. As for Fedor, Dana says it’s all about negotiations not working out.

Seth Petruzelli gets a shout-out from someone in the audience who asks about bringing him back to fight Kimbo. — I like this.

Lots of people asking for autographs…props to Dana White and the fighters for being patient and signing stuff.

FightZone TV Donates $25,000 of National Commercial Airtime To Support US Troops

FightZone TV has announced that co-owners Jay Adams and Al Martino have committed to donating $25,000 of National commercial airtime to be included in their programs airing during the month of March to Outback Steakhouse’s national promotion to support U.S.. troops and their families with $1 million donation.

Outback Steakhouse, a longtime supporter of U.S. military troops, has committed to donate $1 million to Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization that provides emergency and morale support for active troops, veterans and their families.

“The sacrifices that our troops and their families make so we can enjoy the freedoms we have in the United States is something Outback employees have recognized and appreciated since we opened our doors 22 years ago,” said Liz Smith, CEO of OSI Restaurant Partners, parent company of Outback Steakhouse. “Our commitment to donate $1 million to Operation Homefront reflects our appreciation to those who give so much.”

For the month of March, Outback is holding a month-long “Thanks for Giving” effort in participating restaurant locations in the U.S. and Hawaii. Restaurant-goers are invited to express their appreciation to our country’s dedicated servicemen and women by visiting Outback restaurants this month and ordering from the “Red, White and Bloomin’” menu. Proceeds from menu sales during the month of March will help to meet the $1 million commitment to Operation Homefront. The menu will be available through March 31.

Operation Homefront’s mission is to provide emergency and morale assistance for our troops, the families they leave behind, and for wounded warriors when they return home. A nonprofit 501(c)(3), Operation Homefront leads more than 4,500 volunteers in 30 chapters nationwide and has met more than 105,000 needs of military families. Operation Homefront also hosts the Web community, Operation Homefront Online, at www.HomefrontOnline.com.

“As a retired member of the U.S. military and on behalf of our troops serving in locations far and wide, I’d like to thank Outback Steakhouse for its support over the years,” said General Tommy Franks (Ret.). “This support, coupled with the current effort to help our active and retired servicemen, women and their families, is greatly appreciated.”

To further raise awareness about this important cause, Outback has partnered with country music superstar Tim McGraw on his Southern Voice concert tour, scheduled to visit more than 60 U.S. cities this spring and summer. Proceeds from a Southern Voice commemorative t-shirt will also be donated to Operation Homefront.

“When I learned about Outback’s commitment to the troops and history of helping our local communities, it really felt like the perfect fit to partner with them in their efforts,” said McGraw. “Together with Outback, our shared goal is to help raise awareness and funds to help our selfless servicemen and women.”
