MY GOD THIS COMEBACK KID SCOTT SMITH

How many times has Scott Smith been getting his ass handed to him, only to come back and win in exciting style? This dude is easily one of my favorite fighters to watch. Cung Le was torturing Smith with spinning back kicks and all sorts of other methods, until Smith clipped Le with a left hook that rocked him, and followed up until he KO’d Cung Le and referree John McCarthy stopped the fight. Another comeback victory for Scott Smith.

DON FRYE SHOT JOHN DILLINGER

I knew Don Frye had done some movies, but I wasn’t expecting to see him when I rented Public Enemies. I think Don only had 1 or 2 speaking lines, but I’m pretty sure he got a shot off at John Dillinger.

UFC 107 Afterthoughts..

DeMarques Johnson pulled that triangle out quick, he was getting hammered on too, that was nice to see. Edgar Garcia seems legit though.

I had Stefan Struve winning Round 1, and Paul Buentello winning Rounds 2 & 3…the judges obviously saw differently. Maybe I was biased, as I was hoping Paul would win it.

Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez need to fight @ 155lbs now. Diego gave Kenny a beatdown when they were both at 185lbs, I’m interested in see what happens at 155.

I honestly think Frank Mir has as good a chance as anyone at beating Fedor now. Yeah I know that’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I think he has the style to give Fedor a competitive fight.

BJ Penn just totally outclassed Diego Sanchez. That was brutal, and I’m a bigger Diego fan now. Who’s left for BJ Penn to fight at lightweight? Sure, there are many good fighters, but I think BJ is far ahead of the pack right now. I wouldn’t mind seeing a 3rd fight between BJ Penn and Matt Hughes.

UFC 107: My Picks To Win

Yeah, I know my picks don’t matter, but still…

Kevin Burns over TJ Grant
Demarques Johnson over Edgar Garcia
Rousimar Palhares over Lucio Linhares
Johnny Hendricks by something brutal over Ricardo “Golden Boy” Funch
Matt Wiman over Shane Nelson
Alan Belcher over Wilson Gouveia
Paul Buentello by KO over Stefan Struve
Kenny Florian by submission over Clay Guida
Jon Fitch by decision over Mike Pierce
Frank Mir by submission over Cheick Kongo
…and the main event is a tough one for me, I hate to see either guy lose, but I think I’m gonna have to pick BJ Penn on this one, although Diego is an animal and always comes to fight.

TUF Finale airs live in the UK + TUF thoughts

Oh boy, am I excited, ESPN the channel that now airs UFC events will be airing live the Finale of  TUF season 10, for all of us to see in glorious HD!. I am not going to leak the results of the last show before the main event. Mainly because I have not seen it yet and it indeed doesn’t air here until Saturday which really does suck. Regardless of my Tv mishaps. The event should be one to watch. If it is anything like the season 9 finale show then I am more excited than I was before I started writing this.

I remember the main event on TUF season 9 finale because it was one of the best fights of the year. Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida, strange you say? Yeah thats right both of these men will be fighting at UFC 107.

Really in my mind the TUF series has done all but good for this sport, if you win the show then you are set up in the industry for as long as you want, and this is for one reason. You are the TUF champion of whatever season that it may be.

Don’t see my logic? OK.. lets take a look. I shall pick some highlights because the list of TUF winners and their success is too long.

Forest Griffin – Winner of season one, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, fought with some of the best fighters in the world and is in the top ten of the world at his division. Main event superstar at the latest UFC event 106. Josh Koscheck, one of the best weltweights in the world and arguably should be the next fighter for GSP.

Sanchez: “It’s my Time!”

Diego Sanchez, is looking to become the champion of the UFC Lightweight division. He looks to be in the best shape of his life.I wouldn’t like to be staring him down as he runs to you from the other side of the Octagon. If anyone can do it. Its Mr BJ Penn

UFC 110 CONFRIMED!

michael-bispingUFC has confirmed that it will be going to Australia in 2010, but we all knew that already?! Today was little more than the UFC’s UK division (the people who look after events outside of the USA) adding the event officially to their calendar. The UK division certainly know how to through an event, if UFC 105 was anything to go by 110 is going to be off the chain.

The event it self will be held in the Acer arena in Sydney, the arena can hold 21,000 people and given the love for the sport down under I’d imagine that it will be easy for the UFC to sell tickets to the Aussies.

UFC 110 represents the company’s first visit down under and they are bringing with them some of the biggest names on their roster, as a true display of talent.  The following bouts are all but official.

  • Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez*
  • Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva*
  • Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Ben Rothwell*
  • Ryan Bader vs. Keith Jardine*
  • Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski*
  • Dong Hyun Kim vs. Chris Lytle*
  • Chris Haseman vs. Elvis Sinosic*
  • James Te Huna vs. Igor Pokrajac*

* – Not officially announced

I personally have a feeling that the main event could be to crown an interim Heavyweight Champion, if Brock Lesnar is not on the main by such a point.

Whatever the case my be, this card will not disappoint

Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago II – Any different this time?

Josh Koscheck will be fighting Paulo Thiago at UFC 109, or so they say. As you know nothing is ever confirmed until the last minute in MMA but you can be sure that this is going to be a great fight. I think that the result will be different this time however, or atleast I thinks so. I have many reasons for my thinking and I am going to go on and explain them after we take a look back to Febuary.

Paulo Thiago, knocks out Koscheck in dramatic fashion, in the very first round.  Recap done,  lets move on.

Why I think its going to be differnt this time:

  • Koscheck is coming off back to back wins over top contender Anthony  “Rumble” Johnson, fight of the night winner at UFC 106: Ortiz vs Griffin and a win over Frank Trigg earlier in the year.
  • Koscheck is pissed that he is not the next contender for the welterweight championship, leapfrogged by Dan Hardy after his win over Mick Swick at UFC 105, Manchester, England and a pissed off Koscheck is never a good thing for the person standing on the otherside of the cage.
  • Koshcheck has openly said that he wants to fight as much as possible, with the aim of proving to the world that he is the number one contender.

In conclusion, ladies and gentelmen Thiago better train his ass off for this fight, if it happens. Koscheck is on the warpath and it looks like a very large speeding train,  near impossible  to stop on current form.

MMA is coming to Boston, Fellas

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last day then you will know that MMA is now recognised as a sport in the state of Massachusetts, the 42nd state to legalise the sport.  So it looks like it is true, “we are going everywhere” – Dana White. Im not trying to imply that MMA is only the UFC but lets face it, its out there.

This is a long time coming for Boston fight fans and in my opinion will just already add to the city’s sporting greatness, you know what I am talking about, Celtics and the Red Sox. This is a huge step forward for MMA as a sport there has been a campaign for years for said bill to be passed and by God is figurehead, top UFC lightweight contender Kenny “Kenflo” Florian, a happy man this day – his Twitter has been a wash with all the things that makes a MMA fan all warm and fuzzy inside.

“On behalf of all Bostonians, so damn excited MMA will finally be coming to Fenway Park or the Garden. @Kenny_Flor (cont)http://tl.gd/13v8s

“Gov Deval patrick just signed the MMA bill in Mass!!! I am so excited words can not decribe! Here we come Boston!! (cont)http://tl.gd/13v8q

“I’m very excited man. UFC did an awesome job here in Mass & it’s only a matter of time before we are official in all 50 states.”

I have to say, that I thank God for this man because any effort to expand and develop this sport that we all love is a good thing. If you don’t think so, then why are you on MMA-EXTREME.com?

UFC have been extremely quick to act on the news.  Mark Rather UFC exec told the Boston Herald that the UFC will hold an event as soon as July, and that my friend is going to be one hell of a card.

“We’re very bullish on the Northeast and Massachusetts. We’re as excited to come to Boston as any city.”

Is anyone else excited,  or is it just me?

As always, comments and feedback is always welcome
